Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) is a powerful force in the fight against cancer. They dedicate their resources to funding and developing the most promising new treatments, offering hope to patients today. SU2C's impactful fundraising campaigns unite the UK to accelerate progress in life-saving cancer research. This culminates in a live telethon finale broadcasted on Channel 4, where viewers can contribute directly to this critical cause.

Challenge.

SU2C is a dynamic sister charity of Cancer Research UK (CRUK). They face a two-pronged challenge: raising public awareness of the fight against cancer and securing critical funds to support clinical trials and develop new treatments.

Strategy.

At Nonsense, I established the art direction and leadership for SU2C impactful 2016 national campaign. We aimed to break through the noise and inspire action with a theme of “collective rebellion” alongside powerful awareness messages.

The campaign featured a series of unique and daring mass fundraising activities, each infused with a rebellious spirit. To differentiate SU2C from the established pink and blue of CRUK, we leveraged SU2C's impressive celebrity roster and amplified their signature orange color. This strategic approach created a strong and distinct identity for SU2C, injecting a sense of fun and a rebellious attitude into the fight against cancer.

The campaign spanned diverse digital and print touchpoints, including captivating social media videos, impactful out-of-home advertising (OOH), eye-catching shop vinyl takeovers nationwide, and engaging merchandise. To empower widespread participation, we provided user-friendly fundraising packs for home and school use, along with comprehensive campaign guidelines to support internal SU2C teams.

The 2016 SU2C live telethon finale culminated in a remarkable achievement, raising a staggering £15,700,222 pounds. This incredible sum contributed to SU2C's total fundraising efforts, which have surpassed a phenomenal £113 million pounds to date.

Over the past decade, SU2C's relentless fundraising efforts have translated into tangible progress in the fight against cancer. Their contributions have funded a remarkable 64 clinical trials and research projects, directly impacting the lives of more than 13,000 participants.

SU2C 2034 targets

The fight against cancer is making significant strides. In the 1970s, only 1 in 4 people in the UK survived their cancer diagnosis. Today, that number has risen to 2 in 4. Thanks to research funded by SU2C and others, they now have an ambitious goal: for 3 in 4 people in the UK to survive their cancer by 2034.
